This old port town was one of the most important cities in the whole northern region of Pomorze, benefiting greatly from its independent status. Being the last stop on the Vistula grain route, Gdańsk has been also famous for amber, furs, and the multicultural, freethinking atmosphere. Today, Gdańsk makes part of Trójmiasto – 3 cities joined together, with a common transportation system and administration. Here, you must see
the adorable old architecture of Motława and Długi Targ, pass through the Golden Gate – Złota Brama, and walk along the promenade of Długa Street paying a visit at the monumental, gothic St. Marie’s cathedral. Don’t forget to stop by the Shipyard of Gdańsk, where the Solidarity movement is born and where Lech Wałęsa have made his historical jump through the fence. A plethora of different events will fight here for your attention and time – such as baroque orgue music festivals, pop and rock festivals, old clippers races and art exhibitions, so make sure you’ll come back to this charming place to experience its full beauty and attractions.
